This resource is designed to help first-year students explore the topic of sexual orientation in a respectful, inclusive, and age-appropriate manner. It supports students in understanding terms such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, heterosexual, and asexual, while also encouraging empathy, acceptance, and open-minded discussion.
The lesson aims to build awareness and challenge common misconceptions, using clear, student-friendly language. A full lesson plan and PowerPoint presentation are included, with detailed teacher notes to support confident delivery and sensitive discussion.
Please note this powerpoint has been made to align with the HSE's Relationships and Sexuality 1 unit however there may be additional slides created by me for use in my classroom. The powerpoint is editable and you can delete/add as you see fit for your own class.
